Bay Area Environmental Safety Group
An association of Environmental and Safety Professionals communicating current EH&S issues to industry practitioners.

THE NEXT BAESG LUNCH MEETING WILL BE ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 19 (RETURNING TO THIRD WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH).

BAESG WILL ALSO BE PRESENTING A SCHOLARSHIP TO A LOCAL STUDENT STUDYING IN A SAFETY OR ENVIRONMENTAL RELATED CURRICULUM.

This meeting will feature Joel M. Cohen, MPH, CIH, FAIHA- President and Founder of The Cohen Group who will provide update to Cal/OSHA's new heat illness standard.

Cal/OSHA’s most current version of the Heat Illness Standard has been in effect since May 2015. This standard applies to all outdoor places of employment, not just the agriculture industry as some believe. In addition, in 2016 Governor Brown signed SB1167, a bill requiring Cal/OSHA to propose a heat illness standard addressing indoor work environments by January 2019. The impetus for this new standard stemmed from a serious citation issued to two employers working in a warehouse setting where a worker experienced heat related injury. Cal/OSHA has started to work on regulations to address this new requirement.

WHAT YOU WILL LEAN:

Mr. Cohen will outline how the current Heat Illness Standard and the likely requirements of the upcoming Indoor Heat Standard will affect your workplace. He will also provide case studies using recent OSHA appeals where employers were cited for failure to comply with the Heat Illness and/or Injury and Illness Prevention Standards for work in hot environments.
